How to take care after piercing
After Care
Ear Piercing Wound Care
- Wash your hands thoroughly: Wash your hands thoroughly before beginning the care process.
- Clean the wound with saline solution twice a day. Use a cotton swab or cotton pad soaked in saline solution to gently wipe the wound area.
- Wash away all pus and blood stains. Avoid using alcohol directly on the wound or highly concentrated disinfectants as they can cause irritation.
- Do not touch or rotate the earrings or jewelry as this can cause infection and slow healing. If necessary, clean your hands before handling them every time.
- Avoid swimming, pools, the sea, natural water sources, saunas, or soaking in water for at least 4-6 weeks. If the wound gets wet, wash it with saline every time.
- Be careful when drying the wound: After cleaning the wound, the wound should be completely dry, not moist, such as using a fan or a hair dryer with cool air. Avoid using a towel or a lint-free cloth to wipe the wound because it is a source of germs and the towel may snag and pull off the earring or jewelry.
- Avoid using hair products, perfumes, or cosmetics around the wound as they may cause an allergic reaction or infection.
- You should not change earrings or jewelry too soon if the wound has not healed completely.
- Come see a technician if any abnormalities occur to receive treatment advice. The healing time varies depending on each person's body.

- Clean your mouth: Rinse with salt water or an alcohol-free mouthwash after every meal and snack. This will help remove food particles and bacteria that can build up around the piercing.
- Avoid touching the wound area: Avoid touching the wound with dirty hands or playing with the jewelry, as this can lead to bacterial infection and prolong the healing time.
- Avoid mouth-to-mouth contact, such as kissing, oral sex, or sharing oral care items with others, as this can spread bacteria and prolong healing time.
- Avoid consuming spicy or acidic foods and drinks as they can irritate the wound. Choose soft and easy-to-eat foods during the initial stages.
- Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol: Smoking and drinking alcohol can slow down the healing process of your wound and increase your risk of complications such as infection or inflammation. Try to abstain until your wound has healed completely.
- Be careful with oral care products: Avoid using mouthwashes that contain alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or oral care products that contain harsh chemicals, as these can irritate the puncture wound and interfere with the healing process.
How to care for your belly button / nipple after piercing
- Hand cleaning: Before touching the wound or performing any aftercare procedures, wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap to reduce the risk of introducing germs into the wound.
- Clean the wound: Clean the wound twice a day using saline solution or the aftercare solution your piercer recommends. Soak a cotton ball or pad in the saline solution and place it on the wound. Squeeze the cotton ball gently to allow the saline solution to seep into the wound for 2-3 minutes. This will help remove dirt, pus, and blood. Avoid using alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or harsh disinfectants, as these can irritate the wound.
- Avoid touching or twisting the jewelry: Avoid touching the wound unnecessarily, as this can increase bacteria and prolong the healing process. Avoid twisting or twisting the jewelry, as this can cause irritation, inflammation, and delay healing.
- Wear loose clothing: Choose loose clothing, especially around the navel, to reduce friction and irritation of the piercing. Tight clothing can rub against the wound, causing inflammation.
- Avoid water: For the first 4 to 8 weeks after your piercing, avoid swimming in pools, ocean water, hot tubs, or natural bodies of water, as these can contain bacteria and irritants that can increase your risk of infection. Also, avoid taking long baths or showers.
- Be careful with your activities: Avoid strenuous activities such as vigorous exercise, contact sports, or activities that involve excessive stretching or pulling on the abdominal area. These activities can irritate the area and prolong the healing time.
- Avoid activities that may cause impact to the wound, such as rough contact, sweating, or touching your jewelry. Also, avoid sexual activities that may come into contact with the wound area.
- Navel piercings take several months to heal completely, around 8-12 months.
- Nipple piercings take several months to heal completely, around 3-6 months.
- During the healing period, it is normal to experience some redness, swelling, or pus. However, if you notice excessive pain, persistent redness, swelling, or signs of infection (such as pus or a foul odor), see your doctor immediately or consult your piercer for advice on basic care.
